Defibrillator Official Unveiling – Wed 11th Jan 2017

Thanks to all of the hard work of April Staff in organising a number of fundraiser events throughout 2016, we are now pleased to announce that the Defibrillator is now located at the 24/7 Texaco garage in Pencoed. (It is located behind the counter, a member of staff can hand it to you when needed)

As officially unveiled by Mayor Cllr J McCarthy of Pencoed.

The Defibrillator is provided through Welsh Hearts/Calonnau Cymru – The Heart Charity for Wales. Representative, Gerard Rothwell (National Public Access Defibrillation Manager at Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust) was on hand to provide a 1 hour training session afterwards which was well received by a number of local businesses and representatives of the community who attended. It was very informative.

What we learned?
It was Interesting to learn that the number of deaths from cardiac arrest could easily be reduced if a defibrillator was in situ sooner, as quite often the ambulance or first response cannot get there fast enough. The ability to be there with a defibrillator within the first few minutes can make all the difference. Within this time and until professional help arrives, we learned that CPR should be performed alongside the defibrillator or in its absence at the very least, should one not be available. The training was invaluable so again thanks to Gerard Rothwell.
Lastly we would like to thank all of the local business’ in Pencoed that contributed in the fund raising, it wouldn’t have been possible without them.
